Epoch Switch

Epoch switch is an event that occurred after the creation of every 30,000 blocks on the former proof of work Ethereum blockchain. A group of 30,000 blocks is called an epoch, and a new piece of data or DAG is used to mine new blocks after the creation of one epoch.

The epoch switch made the process of mining ETH harder and more memory intensive, occurring when the next DAG gets loaded. During an epoch switch, old mining rigs should restart or update to continue mining tokens.
