To start, download the Pi Network app and sign up with an invitation code from an existing member. Once registered, open the app daily and tap the lightning bolt icon to activate a 24-hour mining session. Regular engagement ensures continuous mining.

To enhance your mining rate, consider inviting trusted friends and family to join your earning team. As they become active miners, your rate increases. After three days of mining, you can create a Security Circle by adding members you trust. Each active member in your Security Circle boosts your mining rate by 20%, up to a maximum of 100% with five members. 

As the network grows, Pi aims to build a peer-to-peer ecosystem where you can use Pi to exchange goods and services within the community. In the Open Network phase after the mainnet launch, Pi plans to allow external connectivity, enabling broader use cases and integration with other blockchains.

Pi Network was founded by Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis and Dr. Chengdiao Fan. They launched the project on March 14, 2019—Pi Day.

The development of Pi Network has progressed through several key phases:

1. Beta Phase (Phase I): Started in December 2018 with the mobile app's alpha prototype, leading to the official launch in March 2019.

2. Testnet Phase (Phase II): Began on March 14, 2020, introducing a live Testnet with distributed nodes worldwide.

3. Mainnet Phase (Phase III): Initiated in December 2021 with the Enclosed Network period, restricting external connectivity. The Open Network period commenced on February 20, 2025, allowing full external connectivity and integration with other networks.

The total maximum supply of Pi is 100 billion tokens, allocated as follows:

> Mining Rewards (65%): Allocated to users who mine Pi through the mobile app, participate in referrals, and operate nodes.

> Ecosystem Growth (10%): Reserved for funding decentralized applications and projects that contribute to the network's expansion.

> Liquidity Pool (5%): Set aside to ensure smooth transactions within the Pi economy.

> Core Team (20%): Allocated to the core team, with a vesting schedule to align incentives with the network's long-term development.
