About ARB
How can I buy Arbitrum (ARB)?
Buying ARB on KuCoin TH is fast and simple. Create an account, verify your identity, deposit funds, and start your trading. It's that simple! See How to Buy Arbitrum (ARB) for more information. What Is Arbitrum (ARB) Cryptocurrency?
Arbitrum has become a popular Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution, providing faster, cheaper, and more scalable infrastructure for Ethereum-based dApps. It processes transactions off-chain using Optimistic Rollup technology, which are then recorded in batches on the Layer-1 Ethereum network.
Arbitrum aims to tackle Ethereum's scalability challenges. It offers a platform for dApp developers and users with lower transaction fees and higher throughput, all without compromising Ethereum's top-tier security. The Layer-2 Arbitrum network strives to make the Ethereum ecosystem more accessible and usable for everyone. It directly competes with Layer-1 "Ethereum killers" like Avalanche, BNB Chain, Solana, and other EVM-compatible chains.
Unlike these other Layer-1 competitors, developers can create custom dApps on Arbitrum using Solidity, the very same smart contract programming language used on Ethereum. This makes it incredibly convenient to port existing Ethereum-based dApps to the Arbitrum network, ensuring a seamless transition and allowing them to benefit from faster, cheaper transactions.
Looking ahead, Arbitrum outlined an ambitious roadmap for 2023. This included the announcement of its proprietary Layer 3 solution, Orbit, which aims to let developers deploy programs written in common programming languages. They also plan to expand the validator set to include more independent institutional validators and migrate protocols to Layer-2 on Arbitrum One.
The crucial question of whether Arbitrum would have its own token was finally answered in March 2023 with the release of Arbitrum's official token. ARB is the native token of the Arbitrum network and serves as the governance token for the Arbitrum DAO. ARB holders can participate in the decentralized governance mechanisms of both the Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova networks, making community-driven DAO governance for the L2 networks a reality.
How Does the Arbitrum DAO Function?
Arbitrum uses Optimistic Rollups to process transactions off-chain via a validator network. These validators are incentivized to act honestly, which significantly enhances network throughput. Should a validator perform an invalid or fraudulent action, other validators can challenge it. Consequently, a malicious validator will lose their staked tokens as a penalty for such behavior.
The Arbitrum DAO is a decentralized autonomous organization responsible for the community-driven governance mechanisms of both the Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova chains. DAO members are holders of the ARB cryptocurrency, granting them the right to submit proposals and vote on proposals from other users to shape the network's future evolution.
ARB token holders can also delegate their voting rights to representatives within the ecosystem. Following the Arbitrum Foundation's ARB token airdrop on March 23, 2023, users gained the ability to participate in Arbitrum's governance either directly or through delegation.
Once Arbitrum users receive their ARB airdrop in their wallets, they also have the option to submit an application to become an Arbitrum DAO delegate. If selected, they can then be chosen as a representative by other airdrop recipients claiming tokens.
History of the Arbitrum Network and ARB Cryptocurrency
Arbitrum was conceived at Offchain Labs, co-founded by Ed Felten, Steven Goldfeder, and Harry Kalodner, who devised a solution to Ethereum's scalability challenges without compromising its security. The soft launch of the Arbitrum network, via a mainnet beta launch, occurred in May 2021.
The project secured funding with a $3.7 million seed round led by Pantera Capital. In April 2021, Offchain Labs raised $20 million in a Series A round, followed by a $100 million Series B funding in August 2021. Notable investors in Arbitrum include Lightspeed Venture Partners, Polychain Capital, Ribbit Capital, and Mark Cuban.
Following its soft launch in May 2021, Arbitrum's mainnet went live in August 2021. Developers added sidechain support in Q1 2022.
Arbitrum AnyTrust was introduced in March 2022, enabling faster and cheaper Layer-2 chains with minimal trust assumptions. Its mainnet, named Arbitrum Nova, launched in July 2022 and became publicly available a month later.
In March 2023, the Arbitrum Foundation announced its decision to establish the Arbitrum DAO and airdrop ARB, Arbitrum's native token. This token empowers the Layer-2 network to be governed by its decentralized community.
